What it is

Symptoms

Signs to look out for

  • A rough, cauliflower-like lesion on the sole or toes
  • Tiny black dots within the lesion (clotted capillaries)
  • Pain when squeezed from the sides rather than pressed down
  • Clusters of small lesions (mosaic verrucae)

Why it happens

  • Human papilloma virus (HPV) entering through small breaks in the skin
  • Walking barefoot in communal showers, pools and gym changing rooms
  • A temporarily lowered immune response
Aftercare

Looking after your feet

Keep the area dry for 24 hours after in-clinic treatment, cover with a fresh plaster when swimming, and avoid sharing towels until the verruca has cleared.
