Windows and doors in Berkhamsted
Windows and doors in Berkhamsted - high-value period property, a large conservation area and careful heritage detailing.
Fitting in Berkhamsted
Berkhamsted is twenty-five minutes east along the A41. It is an affluent town with a great deal of period property, and the standard expected of a window installation there is high.
Most of our Berkhamsted work is heritage detailing on valuable houses - where the point is that nobody can tell the windows were replaced.
Period property, high expectations
The High Street and the streets running off it hold Georgian and Victorian frontages, many of them listed, alongside substantial Edwardian and Arts and Crafts villas on the hillsides north and south of the canal. Sash windows, flush casements and painted timber-alternative finishes are the bulk of what we fit.
There is also considerable 1930s and post-war housing toward Northchurch and Sunnyside, and a run of contemporary extension work where aluminium sliders and slim bi-folds open the back of a house to the garden.

Conservation area and listed buildings
Berkhamsted's conservation area is extensive and Dacorum Borough Council apply it firmly. On listed properties, consent is required and uPVC is rarely acceptable on a front elevation, so we specify accordingly rather than pretending otherwise.
For unlisted houses inside the conservation area, we usually recommend a flush casement or a properly proportioned sash - which is what these buildings were built with in the first place.
